A firm of architects, OFIS based in Slovenia have just completed this inspiring chapel outside the village of Ljubljana.

The building is constructed from polished concrete, larch and glass. It has been cut into the rising landscape and therefore offers a haven tucked into the ground for visitors to contemplate in. The closeness to the earth and roots I am sure will offer a sense of belonging and can only enhance the visitors experience.

The walls of the Chapel also reflect the natural contours of the land, offering an interesting organic footprint. The curved walls continue inside neatly avoiding any sharp angles or harsh lines.

Natural light floods in through the glass cross in the ceiling illuminating the main space below during the day, while at night a lighting spark performs the same function.

Four of OFIS projects have been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Meis van der Rohe Award.
