Ceilings don't Have to be White

I am often asked whether ceilings should always be white.

Ceilings are a hotly debated topic but as with everything else, it all boils down to personal taste. However, there are a few things to bear in mind when choosing a colour.

Painting your ceiling white can make the room look fresh and crisp but if it is in stark contrast to the colour on the walls it can draw attention to the ceiling.

You may be wanting to achieve a seamless look and match the walls to the ceiling. If so remember to choose a colour a few tints lighter than the walls because the ceiling is normally seen in shadow.

If you are decorating a room with high, lofty impersonal ceilings it may be helpful to choose a darker colour on the ceiling giving the illusion of a more intimate space.

Why not take your investigation further and book yourself into Hotel Lux 11 in Berlin. The designer hotel is now a far cry from its past – a former KGB office! The interior also happens to display a perfect example of a statement ceiling – look at the dramatic hot pink ceiling above!
