After looking at some exquisite yacht interiors in Boat International Magazine I felt a nautical theme coming on.

Then I stumbled across a group of ceramics by Danish company Kahler . Kahler was founded in 1839 and over the years have exhibited ceramics in many museums around the world. They pride themselves in their rich artistic heritage and deep understanding of moulding clay. The methods and techniques they employ have been passed down from generation to generation and are still being used today.

In 2007, the company relaunched and initiated a process of fusing their traditional craft with new, bold and contemporary designs. Designer Agnes Fries was commissioned to design some new pieces for the range and the result - the Bottino vases, pictured above. Fries was inspired by fishing floats and has taken their basic shapes and experimented with strong graphic decoration. She also used a recent trip to China to study the technique of overglaze painting - a method the Chinese have mastered. The result is a beautiful series of ceramic vases which can be grouped in many different arrangements to create a fantastic focal point in a room.
