The "maillot jaune" or yellow jersey in Tour de France is of course the coveted prize for the fastest rider. Yellow, the colour full of energy and optimism, is certainly the front runner in interiors this season.

Tour de France was started by a newspaper company called L'Auto who was known for printing on yellow paper and as they were sponsoring the race, it was fitting to choose yellow for the winning colour.

So too has Danish company Vipp taken reference from the car industry for this seasons new iconic Vipp bin. Vipp designers were inspired by New York's yellow cabs - the perfect colour to brighten your kitchen. Lucky then that Marc Newson has designed a new built in oven for Smeg also in yellow. Kitchenaid have joined the rush adding yellow to their range of classic mixers.

As Selfridges celebrates its 100th birthday this year, they have commissioned Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs and many more designers to come up with pieces in their signature Pantone 109. Look out for the special edition yellow converse - one needs matching shoes when opening your Vipp pedal bin!

I love these - bright colour, guaranteed to brighten the mood. And they will go well with the Canaries!
