When Elle Decoration listed their "Top 14 Design Shops in the World", they included Modernity , a vintage design gallery in Stockholm.
I am absolutely delighted that Andrew Duncanson, owner of Modernity is this weeks guest blogger. You only need to look at his Press cuts to gauge the impact his gallery has had around the world.
"I am an ex-pat Scot living in Stockholm and running a vintage design
gallery Modernity . During the eleven years that I have had the business I have seen many trends come and go and some have even stayed.
An interesting relatively recent phenomenon is the astronomically high
prices paid for contemporary furniture. Pieces by designers such as
Zaha Hadid , Marc Newson and Ron Arad can easily fetch hundreds of thousand pounds and up to a million.
The boundary between design and fine art is becoming more and more grey. Art lovers can now buy modern paintings at art fairs such as Basle or Maastricht and buy design at the integrated design sections of the fairs. For people spending millions on art, a couple of hundred thousand for a piece of design is almost pocket money. One art collector asked a colleague for the price of a chair by Gerrit Rietveld and was told it cost £45 000 whereby he happily bought it exclaiming that the price was peanuts. I WANT THAT CUSTOMER"
Many thanks Andrew!
