With Valentines Day just around the corner, I thought it fitting to have a look at the very interesting colour, pink.
Throughout history architects and designers have used umpteen shades pink to great effect. From the pink clays in the temples of the Ancient Greece to the buildings of Jaipur, India's "Pink City", the "Rose City" of Marrakesh to the elegant soft rose pinks of the Palladian era to Verner Panton's hip and throbbing hot pinks he used in his 1966 "multi-functional living units", I think it's fair to say it is a colour that has fascinated us for centuries.
Psychologists tell us that pink can boost confidence, make us feel light hearted and youthful and is even used in some prison cells to help reduce erratic behaviour due to its tranquilizing powers!
Inspired by the blocks of solid pink in paintings by Matisse, Raoul Dufy and other Fauve artists, we have just launched our own punchy pink, "Collioure Hills" which you can see on our site in the next few days!
Many thanks to HelenYardley for the image of "Cerise" wall hanging above.
