Imagine a dilapidated concrete and timber post-modern seaside complex being brought back to life by founders of Red or Dead, Wayne and Geradine Hemingway MBE.
Hemingway Design took up the challenge to refurbish the 1950’s Overstrand beach huts at Boscombe beach, Bournemouth.
Boscombe beach huts are very different from the traditional timber beach huts normally associated with this coast. They are an example of 1950’s architecture – even the concrete Pier itself is a statement of its time. Here, Wayne Hemingway speaks about the architecture and the regeneration of the area with great passion.
Hemingway also says, “the beach pods at the Overstrand will simply be the best in the world. We love Bournemouth and the project is one of the most exciting we’ve ever done. The Overstrand excites us both as designers, and as people interested in seaside regeneration. It’s the restoration of a cool, historic building. We are designing wonderful, unique beach chalets for both surfers and beach lovers alike. We want to re-establish a sense of community on Boscombe seafront, by creating something modern and unique, yet still retain the purity of this historic building”
Boscombe beach also boasts the first artificial surf reef in Europe so if you are looking for a seaside bolt hole you better speak to Savills quickly!
