Looking to combine exercise with some visual inspiration? You may want to walk the The Fife Coastal Path
The walk is 150 km long and stretches from North Queensferry in the South to the Tay Bridge in the North. Apart from the obvious attractions of the beaches, small villages, and wildlife, you will come across some beautiful public art at Dysart.
Glasgow based landscape architects and urban designers City Design Co-operative were asked by Fife Council to come up with a series of new artworks. City Design collaborated with Donald Urquhart, Alec Finlay, Tom Clark, Ken Cockburn and Studio LR. It was an 18 month collaboration between landscape architects, artist, poets, and the local community to create new art works and public spaces linked by the Fife Coastal Path within Dysart. Each work draws its inspiration from the coastal landscape.
“Sea Beams” by Donald Urquhart, which has won a Scottish Design Award, and is photographed above, is a series of nine vertical oak beams each painted in Valtti Ultra to reflect the colour of the of the sea under different light conditions. It is located within a new public space at Dysart Harbour.
The public art may play havoc with your walking schedule but I am sure you will find it a worthwhile interlude!
Many thanks to Marion Preez at City Design Co-operative for the image and information.
