Crocodiling
Crocodiling is patterned cracking on the paint film surface. Natural ageing of oil-based paints. As the temperature fluctuates, the constant expansion and contraction results in the loss of elasticity in paint film and causes it to crack. Crocodiling can also be caused by applying too many coats of paint, not allowing previous coats to dry properly and exposing the new surface to extremes of temperature.
How to avoid crocodiling:
- Remove old paint
- Do not apply too many coats
- Watch the temperature, if it is sunny during the day it might get cold at night!
