Painting timber exteriors
Before you start
- Check the condition of the wood surface and repair any damage and structural defects
- Make sure the walls are dry before you start
- Do not paint in direct sunlight.
- Always choose a tinted, semi-transparent wood finish, because colourless wood finishes do not provide adequate UV protection.
- Choose the same colour undercoat and topcoat.
Painting timber exteriors
- Start painting in good time
- Avoid painting in direct sunlight
- The best weather for painting is when it is overcast
- Avoid painting thick coats, since they dry very slowly and wrinkle as they dry
- Allow paint to dry completely
