Painting timber exteriors

Before you start

  • Check the condition of the wood surface and repair any damage and structural defects
  • Make sure the walls are dry before you start
  • Do not paint in direct sunlight.
  • Always choose a tinted, semi-transparent wood finish, because colourless wood finishes do not provide adequate UV protection.
  • Choose the same colour undercoat and topcoat.

Painting timber exteriors

  • Start painting in good time
  • Avoid painting in direct sunlight
  • The best weather for painting is when it is overcast
  • Avoid painting thick coats, since they dry very slowly and wrinkle as they dry
