Remember, if you are redecorating a whole room you should paint the ceiling and walls first, then move on to the doors and other woodwork.

Before you start
- Put down a paint sheet
- Take off door handle
- Always open the door before you start
- Hold the door open with a wedge on the other side
- Keep the door handle nearby in case the door closes
Painting a door
- When painting panel doors, first paint the panels
- Paint the parts surrounding the panels last
- For glass panelled doors, use masking tape to protect the glass
- Use a smaller brush for delicate work, e.g. mouldings
- Keep the brush lightly loaded with paint to avoid drips
TIP – use different sheen levels for the panels and surrounds, it can give the door a fantastic lift, e.g. semi matt for the panels and gloss for the surrounds.
