Painting floors
All from our professional range so give us a call.
People often don’t consider painting their floors, but this is a technique that can really work well on wood or concrete.
Painting concrete floors
- Make sure the concrete is properly dry
- The relative humidity of the concrete must be below 97%, “If it still looks damp don’t paint it”.
TIP – to measure moisture content, tape 1 sq metre of plastic firmly to the floor. If moisture has gathered under the plastic after 24 hours, the concrete is not yet dry enough to be treated.
Painting wooden floors
- If you are painting a wooden floor, you will need to make sure it has been sanded properly
- It is especially important to make sure there are no nails sticking up from the boards
- When treating wood surfaces with semi-transparent finishes, the final colour of the wood depends on its species, hardness, and original colour, and the number of times it has been treated
- Make a small test application first to ensure the final colour
- For an even finish, always apply semi-transparent finishes in continuous strokes, parallel to the grain
- When painting a floor, the best method is by brush, you get much better impregnation and the product levels itself much more evenly
